Daily Readings

January 7 – 12

Anchor Text: Ephesians 4:21-24

Text from Sunday, January 6: Isaiah 6:2-8

Sermon Notes: We are to worship in Spirit and in Truth. As we worship, we give control over to God and draw into a deeper presence with Him. As we worship, we are changed into a new creation in Christ Jesus.

  • In worship we reflect God’s majesty.
  • Worship convicts, cleanses, and restores us
  • Worship allows us to hear God and be sent

We must remember that we become and we are who/what we worship. May you be a reflection of Christ to the world!

January 14 – 20

Anchor Text: Ephesians 4:21-24

Text from Sunday, January 13: Psalm 1:1-3 and Proverbs 2:1-6

Sermon Notes: Scripture is the foundation for what we know, follow, view the world through, and base our lives on as Christ followers. To understand our faith, we must know and read Scripture. The more we are in God’s word, the more it will permeate our lives. Scripture will create us anew when we are reading it:

  • Expecting God to speak. We come to value it and make time for it.
  • Consistently feeding OURSELVES through our exploration of it.
  • For Change. Scripture changes us and leads us to action.

Scripture is just as relevant now, as it was when it was spoken/written. We search it for answers and understanding. We allow it to become alive in and through us.

January 21 – 26

Anchor Text: Ephesians 4:21-24

Text from Sunday, January 20: Acts 4:29-35

Sermon Notes:

Prayers that create change are…

Bold — Healing — Present — Uniting — Concerned About Others

Prayer must be a part of our daily life. It should be a go-to action, as opposed to the last resort. The United Methodist Church came out of a newfound and experienced reality of Prayer. Maybe we too can discover this reality.

Be bold! Your act of worship this Saturday is to pray with someone you don’t know. Engage in a conversation with someone, ask them if there’s anything you could pray for in their life, and then pray for them right there. This can happen at the mall, the store, work, etc.

January 28 – February 2

Anchor Text: Ephesians 4:21-24

Text from Sunday, January 27: Hebrews 10:23-25

Sermon Notes:

Connection. We were made to be together, to do life together, not to be alone. On Sunday, we talked about how, through connecting, with other Christ followers, we receive:
  • Support
  • Accountability
  • Opportunities for Learning
  • Mentorship
  • Sacrificial Commitment
We grow in faith and do life better together. Go back and read the creation stories in Genesis. We were never made to be alone.

Where are you connecting with other Christ followers outside of worship? Intentionally meet with some friends to talk about how you can connect with each other as Christ followers. How can you support, mentor, hold accountable, learn, and sacrificially commit to each other?

February 4 – 9

Anchor Text: Ephesians 4:21-24

Text from Sunday, February 3: Matthew 4:18-22

Sermon Notes: Faith sharing. We are all called to share our faith with other people. It’s weird and tough sometimes, but that’s no excuse. The more we talk about God, the more real God becomes in our life. We come to expect God to move and to be present in real ways daily. It changes the way we live:

  • We live a prayerful life; and
  • we live an inviting life.

This New Life brings heaven to earth through our stories and how they are received by other people. The cool part is, people may come to know Jesus by you sharing your story!

Take time today to write your redemption story. Pray for people, by name, who don’t know Jesus. Pray that God will use you to share Jesus with them and others. Write about how God has been at work in you the last 6 months.

February 11 – 17

Anchor Text: Ephesians 4:21-24

Text from Sunday, February 10: John 13: 1-17

Sermon Notes: Serving. This week we look at ways to engage in service… to look beyond ourselves and serve others. It’s inconvenient, it takes time, and it takes sacrifice. Why do we do it? Why do I need to do it? How will serving others create a new me?

  1. It’s how we say thank you to God
  2. It’s how we grow spiritually
  3. It’s how we experience community
  4. It’s how the world gets reached

I don’t know about you, but I need to thank God, grow spiritually, experience real community, and share my faith with others more. It’s our calling, purpose, and it’s our privilege to serve. If we aren’t doing it, we are inwardly focused and that’s not the way of Jesus.

Evaluate where you are in terms of service. Are you serving weekly, quarterly, and yearly. Write down where you are serving and see if you have areas where you are NOT serving. Pray and ask God if you are serving to your fullest potential and/or if you are too inward focused.

February 17 – 23

Anchor Text: Ephesians 4:21-24

Text from Sunday, February 10: 2 Peter 1:2-11

Sermon Notes: Learning is both a two-way street and a lifelong pursuit. As we pursue learning, it produces:

  1. Our Call from God;
  2. a closeness with God; and
  3. a leading into eternal life.

The difference that learning makes is pivotal to our relationship with God. God doesn’t desire ignorant faith, but a faith that continues to learn and grow. Are you growing and learning in faith?
