Stephen Ministers Have Gifts of Exhortation and Mercy

Have you taken the Spiritual Gifts survey that is on HUMC’s website? If not, it will be worth your time (15 minutes) to find out if you have a gift of exhortation, giving, leadership, mercy, prophecy, service, and/or teaching. Romans 12:8 says that if you have these gifts, USE THEM!

Stephen Ministry is looking for people with gifts of exhortation and mercy to be trained this fall to become Stephen Ministers. Stephen Ministers walk beside those who are experiencing difficult times and provide a listening ear and at times, a shoulder on which to cry.

Information sessions will be held in late July and early August if you want to find out more about Stephen Ministry. In his sermon on May 16, Pastor Allen told us, “We all have been given something to do that shows ‘who God is’.” What are you to do? Perhaps this is the time for Stephen Ministry.

Stephen Ministry Information Sessions

Perhaps you have heard about Stephen Ministry for several years and now want to commit to train as a Stephen Minister. Or perhaps you don’t know much about Stephen Ministry, but realize that you have spiritual gifts of exhortation and mercy that describe a Stephen Minister and want more information about using these gifts. Whatever the reason, you are invited to learn more about Stephen Ministry by attending an Information Session. At this Information Session, you will learn the history of Stephen Ministry, hear how Stephen Ministry has changed lives, recognize the commitment needed to be a Stephen Minister, and see the schedule and topics for the 50-hour training that begins in September.

Plan now to attend one of these Information Sessions:

Walk to Emmaus

The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The program's approach seriously considers the
model of Christ's servanthood and encourages Christ's disciples to act in ways appropriate to being "a servant of all."

If you would like more information about the Walk to Emmaus or if you have questions, please talk with Pastor Allen Black or Paul Henrie at 883-3918 or check out the website: nashvilleemmaus.org.
