Terri Kawczynski, Director of Music Ministries
On September 25, HUMC hired its first ever full-time Director of Music Ministries. After many resumes, interviews, and prayerful meetings, the position was offered to Terri Kawczynski.
Terri has a Bachelor of Music with voice emphasis from Milliken University in Decatur, Illinois. Prior to joining the HUMC staff, Terri worked for the General Conference on Finance and Administration (GCFA), an entity of the United Methodist Church. Prior to working at the GCFA, she taught voice lessons. She was bitten by the “music bug” in first grade when asked to sing at a PTA meeting. Having begun singing at such a young age is what drives Terri’s passion for children’s music. She has already began working with the youth in various musical endeavors. Terri said, “My vision for HUMC is to give every person that would like to serve God with their musical gifts that opportunity. I want to help them plug into the area that best fits their desire to serve our church, be it handbells, singing in the choir or praise teams, playing an instrument, or any other area of musical worship. Everyone is welcome to share their love of music.”
Terri has been married to Mark, a Civil and Structural Engineer, for 24 years. They have two sons, Kyle (21), a senior at MTSU where he is studying to become a pilot; and Andrew (20), a junior at UT where he is studying to become a chemistry teacher. Their family lives in Mt. Juliet.
Terri and Mark are avid Titan fans. She also enjoys working in her gardens and spending time with her boys. Welcome to HUMC, Terri. We’re glad you’re here!
Meet the New HUM School Director, Sharon Golden
Join us in welcoming our newest staff member, Sharon Golden. She joined the HUMC family on Monday, August 15. Sharon has past experience in directing Methodist schools, and graduated from MTSU with a Bachelor’s Degree and from Trevecca with a Masters Degree, both in Child Development and Family Life Studies.
Sharon is married to Maurice, who is stationed at Fort Campbell, where he serves as a Special Forces Team Sergeant. They have been married since 2003. Sharon and Maurice met at a barbeque in 1998, and five days later he left for a tour of duty in Kosovo. Their courtship consisted of a lot of e-mails! Maurice is currently serving a term overseas, and Skype has become very important to the Goldens. They have a six year old son, Brendan, who recently started first grade at St. Ann’s. Maurice was raised in Ireland, and is a strong Catholic, whereas Sharon is a Methodist through and through.
Sharon is a native Nashvillian, and her entire family lives close by. Her family is very fond of Cirque de Soleil and enjoys traveling to the various locations in which they perform. She also enjoys rafting, canoeing and is a competitive dart thrower. Their cocker spaniel, Darby O’Gill, is pictured here with the rest of the family.
Vision: “HUM School is a really good organization, with many positives already in place. I look forward to working with the teachers and staff to take it to the next level of excellence. I would like to see it become a more intergenerational ministry and to partnership with other groups within HUMC,” said Sharon.
“Sharon is a delight. Her experience in directing preschool programs, her sweet Christian spirit, her understanding of financial planning and her great rapport with children and parents are wonderful gifts that she brings to HUM School. Plus, she is so much fun!,” said Linda Locke, Director of Christian Education.
We had 15 people that registered for H.E.L.P. (Hermitage English Learning Program) on August 23! Here are some pictures of this exciting new ministry! For information on how you can help, please contact Mary Humber at 975-4215 or at mrandmrshumber@yahoo.com.
