In June of this 2010, Karen celebrated 30 years of working at HUMC! She has seen many changes over these years. Karen told of how she would go to member’s offices to use their computers to post our financial information before the church purchased one. Under Karen’s tenure, the church budget has grown from $150,000 per year to its current $1,644,000.
Karen was born in Concordia, Kansas, and attended Kansas State. Upon graduation, she moved to Kansas City and began teaching middle school math. One summer break, she was encouraged to become certified to teach swimming lessons. It was one of the best decisions that she made, because her future husband, Bob, was assisting with the instruction. Karen and Bob will celebrate 45 years of marriage in August of this year.
They have three daughters, Kim, who recently moved back home from Dallas; Kelley lives in Germany; and Kami, who is an environmentalist in Nashville.
Karen enjoys all kinds of logic puzzles, and of course, spending time with Bob and her daughters. She and Bob are very active in the Clan Campbell Scottish Society of North America and USS WASP Association.
“We are truly blessed to have someone like Karen to handle our day to day financial affairs. Her attention to detail and confidentiality are exemplary,” said Joey Parker, Business Administrator.
